Michael Knight,

Weighbridge Operator

I have many responsibilities in my current role as Weighbridge Operator at the King’s Cliffe site. Principally I have to ensure that the waste that comes to site does so with the correct paperwork and that the customer is bringing to us what they said they were during the WAC assessment.

If the load is acceptable I weigh it in and book it into the site for disposal. I also co-ordinate the vehicle management system from the weighbridge which is made up of different colour cards used to communicate instructions. I see this as one of my most important roles as it gives operational and health and safety instructions to the landfill supervisor and his team. I provide the link between the ‘technical bit’ at head office and the operators disposing of the waste in the landfill cell. Since I have worked for Augean I have been given opportunities to learn and develop myself.

I have recently completed my Level 2 NVQ in waste management and have also qualified as a first aider. I thoroughly enjoy working for Augean, I really feel part of the team here at King’s Cliffe.

Karen Portwood,

General Manager, Worcester

I have worked in the waste industry for 14 years, initially in dry waste

before progressing on to ‘special’ waste as a DGSA /ADR technical administrator. I joined Betta Special Waste as an Operations Manager

for their environmental division. The service transferred through a number

of acquisitions, most recently being bought by Augean.

I am currently Site Manager for Augean’s Treatment Centre at

Worcester, which is a varied role involved in all aspects of H&S, Compliancy as well as overseeing operations and transport logistics.

We are a small team of 18, and an HGV fleet of 8 vehicles.

I find the role challenging and interesting and I learn something new everyday. As a Group I find Augean supportive and very proactive

within the industry.

Kophyo Win,

Process Engineering Manager, Cannock.

In my current role I am responsible for operations and technological development of the cement stabilisation and solidification plant for treatment of hazardous waste at our Cannock Treatment Centre.

I have been with Augean of over 2 years now and I joined as Development Chemist based at the King’s Cliffe Landfill Site and I was promoted to my current position in 2005.

While at Augean I have been involved in implementing compliance systems such as Waste Acceptance Procedures and Sampling and I am currently working on planning, installation and optimisation of the CSS plant here at Cannock.

There is a lot of job satisfaction within my current role, I am happy with the support for the management team and I enjoy a good working relationship with the staff from all departments within the Company.
