The Development Control Committee of Northamptonshire County Council has approved applications to extend the life of the currently permitted area of the East Northants Resource Management Facility (ENRMF) for a further three years from August 2013 to December 2016.

Augean, the owner and operator of ENRMF, applied to the County Council for a variation of the time condition relating to the three existing planning permissions; operation of a soil treatment and recycling facility, hazardous waste landfill and low level radioactive waste (LLW) landfill. Following market studies Augean had concluded that due to the recession and the general reduction in quantities of wastes disposed of in landfills that site was unlikely to be completed by the end date of August 2013.  The additional time that has been granted will enable the company to fill the existing void space ensuring that agreed levels are achieved to create an appropriately restored landform.

The applications were approved at the meeting of the Development Control Committee held today, in accordance with a recommendation for approval by Planning Officers.
