Northern Ireland

As a producer of hazardous waste you must pre-notify the Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) at least three working days, and not more than one month, before the hazardous waste is moved.

The EHS will provide a consignment note, containing a unique code for that load, which you must complete in full.

In Northern Ireland, certain types of hazardous waste movements are exempt from pre-notification.

These include:

the second and subsequent movements of the same type of waste moving from the same producer to the same disposal or recovery facility (where the first movement has been pre-notified and transported)
hazardous waste moved between sites belonging to corporate bodies in the same group where that waste is to be stored prior to disposal or recovery, and where the site receiving the waste holds a suitable licence, permit or exemption to receive the waste
off-specification hazardous waste consisting of products or materials being returned to their originator
consignments consisting solely of lead-acid motor vehicle batteries.

Note: these movements still need to be accompanied with a consignment note.
