Augean operates in a technically complex industry. We need people with high level skills, particularly in waste analysis, environmental management, health and safety, and the requirements of our regulators. In parallel with these industry specific skills we also need sound commercial and business management skills.
It is our standard practice to advertise all vacancies internally as well as externally to encourage our existing employees to further their careers within the company and this additionally helps us to retain valuable experience and skills. During 2006, 40% of vacancies were filled internally and 8 individuals were promoted within the organisation.
It is essential that we maintain and further develop the skills and experience of our staff, in order to retain and promote our competitive advantage. We are continuing our programme to significantly increase the number of staff who have relevant COTC qualifications, and are sponsoring other staff through other academic and vocational qualifications. A culture of training and development is promoted throughout the company by information dissemination, regular review of professional development and on the job instruction.
