Waste Recovery Park.

In the Waste Strategy for England 2007, the Government has recognised the need to develop new facilities to treat and recover hazardous and non-hazardous waste, reducing the amount that eventually goes to landfill.

Due to recent changes in legislation hazardous waste has an uncertain market and it is not possible to confidently predict the full range of technologies that will be required for treatment and recovery. By providing a purpose built environmentally controlled facility with the capability to operate a range of treatment facilities, Port Clarence Waste Recovery Park will be able to respond quickly to these market conditions while still maintaining the highest environmental standards and best practice for waste treatment techniques.

The development will provide an integrated waste management facility that uses complementary processes to recover more waste for reuse and recycling. Ultimately, it will reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill. Any residual waste that cannot be treated further will be disposed in landfill.

Hazardous and some non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste will be treated, recycled and recovered using a range of processes and techniques.  Residual materials which cannot be recovered will be sent to the nearby Port Clarence Landfill Site for disposal, but with a reduced hazardous content.

The treatment and recovery processes on site will comprise of waste sorting, blending and bulking, physico-chemical, biological and heat treatment processes.

Six environmentally controlled buildings will be constructed with the flexibility to house a wide range of technologies. Emissions from heat treatment processes will be channelled into a single chimney stack. A contained tank farm will provide pre-treatment of liquid wastes and an effluent treatment and storage facility for the treatment of liquid wastes, process effluent and leachate. The soil washing facility is an existing structure.

Site infrastructure will include a weighbridge, waste reception facilities, lorry parking and driver rest areas. A site laboratory, offices and catering facilities are also proposed, as well as a Visitors Centre to provide the focal point for educational visits and open days.

Further information on opening times on the processes will be available in due course.  In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries on:
