Project Description
Avonmouth Solvent Recovery Facility
Our main organic waste treatment centre is located at Avonmouth. It is a fully permitted site, with trade effluent discharge consent.
Avonmouth specialises in the recycling and recovery of:
Contaminated industrial solvents
Oils
Sludges
Waste Water

Avonmouth’s processes include oil recovery with a treatment capacity of up to 30 tonne per day and storage for 200 tonnes of recovered fuel oil (RFO) derived from waste oils. This involves blending and heat treatment and filtration to remove contaminants, improving the quality, usability and value of the waste oil.
A centrifuge process is used to treat sludges produced from the on-site water treatment process and also to treat incoming sludges from other producers. The centrifuge process separates solids and liquids from sludges to enable their onward treatment and disposal.
Waste solvents that are unsuitable for recovery and resale are blended with other high calorific value liquid wastes to meet a kiln fuel specification. The material is supplied out as a support fuel for waste incineration and cement manufacture.
The Avonmouth Site has three distillation units that are used to recover solvents from waste paints and inks. The distillate is blended to meet a resale specification and sold back into the market. Avonmouth can offer a toll recovery service with dedicated storage tanks for customers waste and distillate product.
Our wash out facility consists of a high pressure cannon mounted on a moveable platform. Wash outs are available to vehicles which have tipped a load into the oil/water or effluent plants. All wash waters and solids are captured in a sump area and distributed within the Avonmouth site for further processing.
This allows hazardous and non-hazardous wastes in packages and containers to be sorted, segregated and stored at the site pending their treatment on site or movement to other Augean sites for treatment and further processing. In this manner, containerised wastes can be brought to the site and put together with other appropriate wastes being stored there prior to their dispatch in full loads maximising operational and transport efficiencies.
Through our own fleet of vehicles we are able to collect and transport your waste safely and compliantly in both packages and bulk. As a Waste Carrier we are registered with the required regulatory bodies and our drivers are fully ADR trained (Agreement on the International Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road).
This process uses physical and chemical treatment including pH adjustment and solids removal. This is complemented by the biological treatment plant which is capable of treating organic pollutants using a high rate aerobic bio-filter prior to their discharge to sewer. A centrifuge process is also available to separate solid and liquids from sludges enabling their onward treatment.
